Inner Fortune Journal
Here's what you'll find inside:
OVERVIEW:
Calendar Pages - Use them to track your entries by section, track the full moon, whatever you like - not what you have to do.
8 Section Pages - there are 8 pages per section: Dream, Livelihood, Thought, Social, Family, Body, Adventure, and Inspiration. Each section has between 4 and 5 different tools for observing life objectively and in most of the spaces are various words that are designed to stimulate ideas. The goal: concentration and clarity, letting intuition speak to you without all the interruptions and noise competing for your attention. Ultimately we will provide journals with different page quantities per section. Feedback on how fast or slow you get through a section is most welcome.
Day/Time/Place - a simple, initial step to prepare for journaling; Over time, great for seeing habits of where & when we like to think on things.
Likert Scales - quick ranking of basic items on a scale of 1 to 5 gets the brain focused and ready to serve you. Not intended to be an exact science.
Lined Pages – All traditional journals have lined pages, which is great for people who write easily. For those of us who don’t, the basic tools are designed to stimulate ideas which can then be explored on the lined pages.
LISTS – don’t you just LOVE lists?
- List all the things that describe you
- List all the things you want
- List the books you read and movies you watch
- List all the things that make you happy and grateful
- List some goals and accomplishments
- And list all your favorites of everything!
BACKGROUND:
Hello and welcome to Inner Fortune – the journaling system designed to capture your brilliant ideas and support your efforts to improve your world.
Improving your world might seem like a monumental claim, and it is! Yet we know from experience and from the supportive words of many acclaimed authors like Marianne Williamson and Jon Kabat-Zinn that we can only improve what we understand and what we attend to. Understanding and attending to ourselves, our amazing miracle of life contained right inside our bodies, our minds, and our souls, is the process of improving our world.
This journal is divided into 8 color-coded categories: dream is blue – the color of the sky and oceans, the color of the communication and higher thought chakras. Livelihood, which encompasses all the arenas we choose to learn about and earn a living from is the color green –the color of new life that feeds us as well as the color often associated with money and envy. The thought section is black, the color of unknowing, the absence of color or of emptiness which evokes an openness to our deepest self’s true knowing. Social is yellow – the color of the sun, vibrancy, energy and the power chakra as all energy comes from interrelatedness. Family is purple, the color of royalty – representing the supreme importance that our families have in our lives. The body section is orange which is the reproductive chakra and the source of so many juicy emotions and feelings. Adventure is reddish brown – both passionate and earthy, honoring our aspirations that are both grounded and exciting. And inspiration is light gray – the closest printable color to white which is the essence of purity as well as diversity, the color that includes all other colors and unites all seemingly different aspects of self.
There are a couple of notes in your journal that provide an orientation and detail the source of its creation. But the most important first pages to look at and write on are the first page of each colored section. These pages offer reasons why you would use the section as well as suggestions for how to use it, and then provide space for you to write about your personal reasons and goals for each section – to get your energy focused where you want it.
There are sample pages here on innerfortune.com, but there is no “right” way to journal. The prompts in each section offer structure when you need it, and can be modified however you like, and the lined space on each page offers unstructured space when you have clear thoughts and ideas to explore. The true beauty of this format is that patterns and trends become easy to identify in such a short timeframe. One unique approach the author Karen Ribeiro has taken is to write on one page in each section per week. Doing this for eight weeks in a row teaches a great deal about dream symbols, the subtle affects of hormonal changes, and of course a variety of communication patterns.
In the end, there are lists for articles and books read, shows and movies watched or web sites visited, space to list what makes you happy and what you’re grateful for—a daily activity we can all benefit from, again based on experience and advice shared by great people like Oprah Winfrey.
We all know that life is challenging, some days more than others. Yet we can all transform our challenges into creative solutions—ultimately by collaborating with others. But the first step as Socrates and his female teacher Diotima said is to Know Thyself. When we understand what makes us tick, when we tap into the source of our unique passion for life and purpose, then we can share our unique gifts and talents and improve our corner of the world in which we live.
